Mike was one of the people that was rejected by DVA when he made an  AgentOrange claim. This all happened before the media broke the story of Gagetown. Mike died of cancer and had many symptoms of AO exposure during his military career. If anyone is interested in the Agent Orange story, from the affected persons side, the website we use is www.agentorangealert.com . There you can read many many stories and the problems we have been having with the government accepting their responsibility for the damage that was done,..Not by the spraying but by the lies and hiding of the evidence that many needed to help them extend their lifes... McCartney - Edward David (Dave) November 20, 1935 - November 5, 2009 It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Edward David (Dave) McCartney. Survived by his wife of 49 years, Ronnie, daughter Colleen (Dan), and his beloved grandchildren Quinn, Mason and Chloe. Also survived by brothers Ian (Denise), Chuck (Bev), Norm (Jeannie), Doug (Nora) and sister Nancy. Dave was born to Ted and Evelyn McCartney in Calgary, and raised in Kaslo, BC where his family farmed. He and his brothers lived what Dave described as the life of Tom Sawyer. After leaving Kaslo Dave joined the Royal Canadian Air force. He was stationed in both Canada and throughout Europe. He always told amusing stories about his experiences overseas and the time he spent with his friends from the RCAF. After leaving the Air Force he and Ronnie moved west to British Columbia where Dave worked at CP Air until 1971. They then joined Dave's brothers in Squamish where they owned and operated the local hardware store. Home Hardware became somewhat of an institution in town, a place where people came not only to shop but also to visit with the McCartney brothers and share a laugh. Dave loved to travel and spent time in Arizona every year. His grandchildren were fortunate to have him travel with them through BC, Alberta, Arizona, and Europe. They loved having their own private travel guide. Dave (Flash) will always be remembered for his sharp mind, his keen sense of humour and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. He was known as a walking Encyclopedia and had a personality that could put anyone at ease. Dave was a gentle man with a kind heart. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. A very special thank you to Dr Eksteen, Pam Lang and all of the nurses from Home Nursing Care. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Saturday, November 14th at 12:00 at the Squamish Funeral Chapel. Photo

McCARTNEY, Veronica (nee Slattery)February 1, 1935 - July 30, 2010 It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Veronica (Ronnie) McCartney after a short, but intense fight with cancer. Predeceased by husband Dave only 8 short months ago. Survived by daughter Colleen (Dan), beloved grandchildren Quinn, Mason and Chloe, brothers Bill (Irene) and Raymond (Isabel) in Scotland. Born in Glasgow to John and Margaret Slattery and raised in Ayr, she left when she was in her early 20s to join the Royal Canadian Air Force. She arrived via ship to Montreal to start her new life in Canada. While serving in the air force she met her husband of 49 years. They married and moved to BC, eventually settling in Squamish, a town that Ronnie grew to love. It was in Squamish that Ronnie found one of her true passions - selling real estate, which she excelled at for almost 30 years. She loved to help families find their perfect home. Known for her generosity, she loved to give gifts for any and all occasions, personalizing cards with heart felt words. Time spent in the south was especially embraced. Twice yearly trips to Scottsdale were highlights, both for sun and shopping - her favorite hobby! Her three grandchildren were lights in her life - known as Gramma she loved having them come to visit, so they could share time over milk and cookies. Ronnie will be remembered for her keen business mind, her true friendships, her fondness of animals and never being short of an opinion (she was Scottish, after all!) She will be truly missed. A very special thank you to Dr Ben Eksteen - Dr Ben, who has been a true blessing to our family in the past year and a half. Also thank you to the wonderful nurses from Squamish Home Nursing Care - and to the nurses at SGH. A celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 8th at 11:00 at the Squamish Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Squamish Hospital Foundation.

James Lockridge

LOCKRIDGE, James "Jim" Francis September 4, 1938 - May 13, 2011 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James "Jim" Francis Lockridge, beloved husband of Marilyn of Calgary, on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the age of 72 years. Jim was a proud military man and served thirty-five years in the Canadian Air Force, retiring in 1990 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer at the Canadian Forces Headquarters in Ottawa. Traveling the country and the world with his job he and Marilyn created a wealth of great friendships. Later in life, when those friends lived miles away, their friendships were easily rekindled with a quick "drop in" visit to catch up on old times. Jim was an avid athlete, excelling as both a hockey and softball player throughout his youth and adult life. As his hockey legs wore out he begrudgingly gave up the game he loved and picked up his newest athletic passion cycling, and could be found daily riding his bike along the bike paths of Calgary. His passion for sports was handed down to his children and grandchildren as he was an avid coach and organizer of youth sports and an enthusiastic supporter of his children and grandchildren's sporting pursuits. He so wanted to see his beloved Leafs win just one more Cup. Go Leafs Go! Jim and Marilyn enjoyed many happy years of retirement together. They filled their time with traveling the world, visiting friends and family, playing golf and checking items off their bucket list. Just recently Jim and Marilyn enjoyed a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon on what would be there last trip home together from their retirement property in Arizona. Besides his loving wife and companion of fifty-four years, Marilyn, Jim is survived by his four children, Tim (Michelle), Leslie (Scott), Mark (Bernadette) and Brent (Karen); six grandchildren, Katelyn, Marc, Clayton, Darcy, Palmer and Claire; as well as sisters, Helen (Roger), Lois (Garth) and Shirley (Hugh). Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, No. 204, 2323 32 Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 6Z3 (Telephone 403-266-0620, ext. 112, www.diabetes.ca ). In living memory of James Lockridge, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
